5 BIG MAKEUP MISTAKES BRIDES OFTEN MAKE

The 5 elements mentioned below are the most common makeup mistakes brides make.  Each has longstanding repercussions in how they feel on the day and the photos they have to live with forever.

  1. WHAT’S THE KEY TO A BEAUTIFUL BRIDAL LOOK?
    • A fantastic professional hair + makeup artist to help turn your dreams into a reality. I believe it’s really important to not only look very special, but also ‘feel’ special. Brides always look beautiful when they are happy!
  2. WHAT TO AVOID ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
    • Avoid organizing things at the last minute. Write things down so if you are a bit anxious, your notes/list will keep you calm and on track! Try to keep the actual wedding day for pampering and celebrations!
  3. FASHION FAUX PAS THE BRIDE WILL LIKELY REGRET IN TEN YEARS TIME?
    • Going overboard with shimmers and bronzers! In small doses, shimmers will add a touch of radiance, but too much will create a ‘showgirl’ look. Going wild with a bronzer that’s too dark for your complexion will leave a fake, flat finish.
  4. FAVOURITE LOOK?
    • I love it when the eyes are always the highlight, regardless of the makeup look. My favourite is a soft, smokey eyeliner thickening the appearance of the lashes & defining the eye shape. I also love some natural looking cheek colour, great brows     and polished, flawless skin.
  5. WHAT SHOULD A BRIDE CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING HER MAKEUP LOOK?
    • Decide on a look that you are comfortable wearing. You still want to look and feel like yourself, but a more elegant, glamorous version of your everyday self. Consider a makeup look that will be long–lasting, with little maintenance and still looks great in the flesh and for photos.

There are so many top products on the market, yet for the perfect wedding day makeup, a true artist needs to be very particular to get the look that is spectacular and to perfect the look to last the whole day. Believe me, this is critically important, so I hope my shortlist of makeup tips and must-have products will help you decide what’s right for you.

MAKEUP TIPS – Part 1

To create waterproof eyeliner, dip a fine makeup brush into a waterproof mascara tube and use this to line the eyes. Eyeliner will stay put with little maintenance.

Spray your face with rosewater or Evian to freshen your makeup look throughout the day. This is a very effective method when your makeup has been on for a long period of time or under hot lights.

When you have very limited time to apply makeup, start with your eyes first and focus all your energy on this important feature. As time runs out, at least your face looks ‘done’. You can pick up time as you go and complete your face on the go. Put your lippy on in the taxi!

When using dark eyeshadow colours, place a tissue under the eye area to prevent sparks of eyeshadow from falling onto your face.

A well-prepared canvas is very crucial to creating a fresh, flawless foundation. By using a nourishing moisturiser first, this helps the foundation glide smoothly over the skin as well as applying less. Remember to tissue off any excess shine before applying luminizers.

MAKEUP TIPS – Part 2

Try not to over-apply foundation. Allow the texture of skin to show through. Instead apply concealer to areas of skin that need evening out, such as the corners of your nose or mouth, then add just enough to warm up your skin colour and hide flaws.

Before even starting makeup, check the lighting you are working with as this greatly influences the end result of your colours and makeup design. Ask yourself will fine details be seen? Do the colours need to be strong so they will show up from a distance?

For a more dramatic effect, layer your makeup products, eg: apply powder colours over cream products or use eyeshadow on top of a khol pencil. Not only will the makeup be long-wearing, but it will also create a multi-dimensional illusion as opposed to a flatter makeup look.
